The End of the Golden Age - Berserk tribute models

Kentaro Miura's series has directly and indirectly been the source of quite a bit of entertainment over the years, and so I wanted to acknowledge his work. These models are slightly rougher than I'd intended, but I didn't want to wait until this project was complete, whenever that came around.

I will wander through the pines and make my way to nature's shrines - Abyssal Woods set, Part 0

So, this was a lot of fun: with the Abyssal Woods campaign coming... uh... some time in the future, I was happy that my client went with my suggestion that all his expansions that would integrate into the campaign be a single palette.

A Light at the End - Kingdom Death Nemeses, etc. Also, custom gear.

Starting off, the Twilight Witch is one of my biggest disappointments with Kingdom Death's 1.5 Kickstarter: I think it, and the non-pinup "Twilight Cloak" survivor model, could so easily have been included as part of the postgame mechanics/gear, with a more interesting survivor addition than the young and old survivors, neither of which are especially mechanically relevant.

I liked this old design so much that I actually made a gear card for it:

Gloom and Doom - Kingdom Death Desaturated Models: Hand, Ranger, Rogue

So, I feel like my Kingdom Death painting is mostly recognizable for my play with light. Here are a few I've been painting that show off the bleak side of the setting, and these paint jobs are more than a little influenced by Dark Souls (including my own practice with its board game adaptation).

Gather 'Round for a Story - A Life Update (also, a pretty Kingdom Death Lion Knight)

Some of you readers may have noticed my posts have been a bit sparse, recently. So, this post will be a little different than usual, in that I'm stepping a little outside gaming, painting, or reviews, to say a little about myself.

The short version is, describing my life right now as "tumultuous" would be an understatement.

Gloomhaven - Unlocked Sun class, and campaign part 3

Our group's first unlocked character!

Guess what? There'll be some tame spoilers, because I can't show a model without showing it!

Jazz Men - Kingdom Death core nemeses

Wait, no, another American genre.

So... I honestly didn't understand just how consistently blue my client meant when he asked for his monsters in blue.

I've already done a few blue Hands, but I was pleasantly surprised how dramatic and ghostly the King's Man and Butcher turned out. I think the Butcher's back was the biggest surprise, giving a completely different feel (IMHO) to the mode.

Blue vs. Red - Kingdom Death Butcher and Hand

I've done a few Hand paint jobs, and done more than half of those in blue lighting, but I feel like the tuning I achieved on this one really improved it past slight technical improvement.

Second String - Dark Souls Silver Knights

I really wanted to try to get some coldness into the Silver Knights, mostly to differentiate them from the other wholly-armored minis in the Dark Souls set, and to fit their apparently defining characteristic.

Party Time! - Dark Souls Player Classes

The Warrior's bulkiness is pretty appealing-- I think they're probably my favorite of the four base classes, with a pre-action pose and a fair bit of weight.

Light Up the Knight - Kingdom Death Warrior of the Sun Pinup and Percival the Black Knight

I was pretty darn happy with how this repaint came out-- a slight conversion to turn her top into more of a sleeveless thing than a corset, but basically I just repainted the Warrior of the Sun.

Hot-Blooded - Kingdom Death Butcher, Re-posed

My second re-pose for the Butcher, this guy was a pretty smooth conversion-- other than the jaw which I couldn't get open, this posing job went off nicely, since I didn't need to experiment. I shifted his weight a bit since the previous one, with an emphasis on having finished a swing rather than the lower thrust of my first one which was roaring.

Cold Steel - Kingdom Death Butcher

A quick one today, I've done a few Butchers at this point, but normally they've been warmer. This time I had a request for a more neutrally lit one, which, with all of the extinguished lanterns on its base, gave it a particularly bleak feel which, in my opinion, worked well with the static pose- it made him feel a bit lonely, despite the warm lanterns on his back.

Seeing Red - Modified Kingdom Death Butcher

So, I got tired of Kingdom Death's "menacing" models often just kind of standing around, particularly in the case of a flailing blood-crazed berserker.
