Colorful Characters - Kingdom Death/Sedition Wars Crossover minis

So, I really liked Kara Black's crossover model for Kingdom Death, enough that I wanted to do something special with her scenario, in part because I'd spent so much time with Sedition Wars.

It Ain't Me you Gotta' Worry About Now - Sedition Wars Riddick Homage

A quick one today, I was originally going to paint him with some more shadow, but thought the little on his base and very dark color scheme would be enough. That, and I think that the lighter skin as contrast worked better than one more effect would.

Colonial ConApts - Angry Mojo MDF Hive review & assembly tips

To start off, this is my first MDF kit that wasn't a prefab (...ironic, given the kits represent prefabs...). I have quite a bit of hobby experience, but Angry Mojo's "The Hive" MDF kit was new to me.

Meat Space - More Sedition Wars Strain

The Shambling Menace grows!

(Not sure what else there is to say about these guys... They're space zombies, and I still like the sculpt with the giant arm best...)

Building Character- Vanguard Unique Models

Continuing with a more down-to earth Vanguard minis, with a batch of characters. I've always liked Kara, particularly her expression and prosthetic arm: Her scars have a lot of cool narrative weight that I don't often see.

Waste Not, Want Not - Revenant color test

Another new incarnation (possibly a reincarnation?), this time, mostly going with dead flesh rather than anything particularly bloody.

"I See a Red Door and I..." - Black and Dark Non-Metallic Metal Painting Tutorial

So, for my first tutorial, I'm focusing on a favorite area of mine- I consider myself pretty proficient in lighting and contrast, so NMM techniques was a clear first option.

This tutorial will be primarily about working primarily with glossy blacks and NMM, though the techniques could be applied to most high-contrast techniques and I'll make a few notes throughout on how this can be adapted.

This also covers a few of my preferences on paints and techniques.

I'll be using a Studio McVey Sedition Wars mini as the basis for this demo.

B Squad Leader - Samaritan Color Test

After doing a kind of standard job with my own Samaritans, going with something strikingly different was a lot of fun. I'm not really sure what else to say on this- the paint job went very smoothly, even if it did come out a little brighter than the X-COM reference. More Sedition Wars dudes to follow...

Feelin' Blue - Kingdom Death Twilight Knight

The Kingdom Death line has done nothing but impress me, and the Twilight Knight was no exception.

More Man than Machine? Cthonian re-sculpt (also, Cthonian Assault Drone)

This has been a side project I've been working on ever since I finished my Grendlr conversion some time back. The Cthonian looks nice as a robot, but never really spoke to me as a giant evil pseudo-organic intelligence, which demanded a change.

Flying Solo - Sedition Wars Solo Play Designer's Notes & (unofficial) Co-op Rules

The Solo rules variant for Sedition Wars is the most ambitious and complex set of rules I've written. While I started the project expecting I could get it done in around 6-8 pages, it became something far grander in scope as I worked on it.

(This article assumes you're either familiar with the terms, have the rules (the beta rules PDFs are here) or are fine catching as catch can, knowing some game terms aren't explained.)

Initial Concept
Coming into the project, I had a ton of experience testing Sedition Wars, and knew the flow of the game pretty much backwards and forwards. There were a few points I knew I wanted to address from the beginning:
