Don't fight it, son. Confess quickly! Lucius & co.
There's something I find particularly fascinating and threatening about the sinister undertones of authority.

Braaains! Test Zombie
A quick little one today- a test color scheme for a Mantic Zombie- the first of many!
Done using a lot of the techniques I developed while painting up my Strain minis for Sedition Wars.

...all out of bubblegum. Lord Commander Stryker charity paint job
Lord Commander Coleman Stryker (or "Strykey," to his friends), here, is the first mini I've been asked to do as a charity auction piece, and has a fair amount of story behind him.

"Jealousy" - The Rotten Harvest Painting Competition Best in Show
Well, starting with the best foot forward...
edit: Oh, and, umm looking at the title now, in case it could be misconstrued, Jealousy was the name of the entry.

Okay I admit it, I'm pretty sure haven't seen The Thin Man - Steampunk trio by Lead Adventure
I've been informed that the best reference around for a crime-solving duo and their dog is unfortunately from a movie I haven't seen (or at least don't remember). Rather than grab a random quote like a poser, I'll leave it as a simple acknowledgement that The Thin Man should be on my Netflix cue.

Honoring your promises: how companies react to mistakes.
Originally, this wasn't going to have anything to do with my own work, and just be a short little article about company policies, but, as luck would have it, this synched up nicely.

The Fires of Industry - Malifaux Arcanist Constructs, part 2
I really do enjoy puns that go the extra mile and are double puns, and Kaeris's mechanical wings and penchant for fire do just that.

Dispatches from Sentinel-Sigma - An Astral Claws article series - Beginnings and 6th editon Review
Some more regular readers may notice that I'm not using the black backdrop I usually have been using- that's because this is actually a somewhat old photograph that I took when I was entering the model in a painting competition. Things have changed since then, which you'll see as I start adding new photos to the series.

A city in eight years... or whatever. Malifaux / Mordheim WIP sewer table
The board's humble beginnings, spring 2012 |
It also turns out that I don't think I ever posted any WIP shots here, so this one's going to be a bit of a pic-heavy post, since I already have the pics.

Ripperology - Seamus and other Ressurectionists
With the pre-release Malifaux's second edition and no game I was particularly passionate about at the moment, it was a good opportunity to practice more source lighting.

Readings, in front and behind - Sedition Wars terrain, part 1
I've done a number of terrain projects over the years, and realized that they're most often the projects I get distracted by mid-process, so I wanted to start small with this one.

Panzerbjorn! ...well, kinda'. Bear steeds for Chaos Warriors
Yeah, I know, not very appropriate, but the other option was the bear cav meme/motivational poster thing, which was even less of a reference.

We've got Movement! A review and analysis of Arena Rex's playtest documents
A basic review
Trying out the Arena Rex playtest. This will be kind of a stream of consciousness piece, assessing things as I read them, concluding in a battle report that I'm sure will be full of errors and questions.

Color Theory, (Board) Game Theory: OF-1 Nikiita Perostek, Exploding Dice (addition: durability and common attacks)
This mini really pushed my abilities. I started with teal, as what was going to be a reference, but it quickly became something more than that.

Compare & Contrast - Sedition Wars revisions - Revenant tests
A quick one, today. I decided that, while I'm not sure what to do with the extra copies of minis I got from the Kickstarter, I want to have at least the core set painted to a really nice standard.
I rushed through the basic infantry on both sides, and it was time to go back in and get them looking spiffy.
This was the result of the first round of changes. I pushed the contrast a lot, picked out some details, and added more color to the bases. I'm happy enough with these that I've been working a bit on the others.

UN Spacy - Jovian Chronicles Exo-Armor
Nothing triggers the childhood sci-fi nostalgia for me quite like mecha... well, maybe things related to Dune, but I'm not talking about a stillsuit commission.

* Cue _Tarantino_ Score * Malifaux Viktoria Crew
Malifaux substitutes Blackwater Gulch's consistency and historical setting with style and badassery.

"Things Have Turned a Deeper Shade of Blue" - Infinity Aleph
Another set of Infinity models- Corvus Belli's style of detail is growing on me, and I think I'm getting them better and better.

*Cue Morricone Score* - Blackwater Gulch, part 1.1 of 2
After some misscommunication, making some changes. I worked on this guy for the test, because he needed the most work and was one of my favorites.
I added a solid band close to the base color, marking the back of the base, and I lightened up and smoothed out the skin color.
Assuming this is a go, the rest of the set is ready to go.

*Cue Morricone Score* - Blackwater Gulch, part 1 of 2
There's something quite charming about Blackwater Gulch's hybrid style of miniatures that fits part-way between the detail of wargames miniatures and the character of historical ones.

Compare & Contrast - Sedition Wars, testing the first scenario under 1st and 2nd edition rules
As I posted yesterday, the PDFs for second edition Sedition Wars came out. There's been a lot of controversy, and I thought it would be good to try something out.
I decided try to repeat the same scenario under the same conditions, using the same strategy, using the same rolls, with both rules sets. I'm playing these simultaneously with two types of counters. Yes, it's confusing, but I'm curious to see how the same tactics work on both versions.

The Bionic Game: Sedition Wars rules update, a rundown of the changes
Studio McVey just put out their updated rules for Sedition Wars.
The Rules are here.
The cards are here.
With a few comments, the entirety of the changes in the update to Sedition Wars. Yellow highlights represent more notable changes, and red comments are ones I feel are more noteworthy.
Note, this is being noted in order. I'll try to change earlier statements if things are clarified later, but may have missed some...
